Raising Children in a Bilingual Russian-English-speaking Family,

a parent workshop with Professor Isabelle Barriere, PhD.

Dr. Isabelle Barriere will be sharing research and methodologies on fostering successful and long-term bilingual development specifically targeted for Russian-English speaking Jewish families.

·         Early milestones in language acquisition in monolingual and bilingual development, with a focus on

English/Russian and English/Hebrew bilingual families.

·         Literacy in two languages using books, technology and games.  

·         Parental strategies that foster bilingual development at different stages - from infancy through school

readiness.

Dr. Barriere is Assistant Professor of Speech Communication Arts & Science at Brooklyn College, where she teaches courses in Language Development and Dual Language Learning. Her research focuses on the acquisition of language, bilingual development, early literacy, typical and impaired development and intervention. Dr. Barriere is also a research associate of the Research Institute for the Study of Language in Urban Society and co-director of Yeled V'Yalda Research Institute, located in the largest Head Start program in New York.
